Abe’s Market: 25% Off ALL Week

You may have noticed the Abe’s Market banners that I’ve sprinkled around the site. I’m trying something new out, but rest assured, it’s for your benefit.

Have you seen Abe’s Market?

No?

Ok. Take 15 minutes and go exploring. Here’s a link (and yes, it’s an affiliate link. I like to think of it as good karma :) ) But really — go exploring. Since discovering this site (*coughthanksmomcough*), a nice portion of my paycheck tends to go there every so often.

Abe’s Market is an online store full of local and natural products. From baby products to makeup to delicious snacks and even clothing — there is really something for everyone. Already, I have discovered a new mineral makeup that is way better for your skin than Bare Escentuals (and it’s only got four ingredients!), a fun and safe nail polish, and a super moisturizing natural lipgloss.

I could easily spend a few hundred dollars on all the different products I want to try, and I’m sure that eventually, I will. But what’s great is that they literally have a natural alternative for almost anything you could be looking for.

When you sign up for their emails (which are always fun to read — I really look forward to them), you automatically get a coupon for $5 off, and they have sales fairly often. It makes for a pretty positive (and really freaking fun) shopping experience.

To make the venture even easier (and BETTER!), it’s Discovery Week!

Abe’s is having 25% off all different kinds of products each day. Plus, if you order once, you get free shipping all week, including any additional orders (as long as they’re over $25).

Monday: Beauty, Bath & Body
Tuesday: Baby & Kids
Wednesday: Food
Thursday: Home & Fashion (you can bet I have my eye on a few things)
Friday: Health and Pet

Try it and LOVE it!

Labor Day Birthday

Happy Labor Day! (Belated… I know… I was taking advantage of the break)

In addition to Monday being Labor Day, it was also my birthday. Amongst a hectic weekend (my car was broken into and my iPod and car charger were stolen), I found solace in friends, family, running around barefoot in the grass, sipping iced soy chais, and I even found a four leaf clover (my first ever!). With the school year starting, as well as a new season, I am… well…

I am excited. Really, I am. This past year and a half has been a very interesting journey for me. I’ve begun to learn a lot about food, myself, the environment, and how all of those things take effect. It all started when I was forced to watch the documentary Food, Inc. for a college class. After that, I couldn’t be naive anymore. What happens to our food, where it comes from, what we put into our lives and onto our bodies — it all matters.

With that said, I am happy and extremely grateful for the things that I have learned thus far, and I am excited for the learning to continue.

My goal for this blog is to help better the lives of each and every person that reads this. Whether it’s on a small scale (tips to sneak more water into your daily life — hey, you know your body needs it!) or a large scale (committing to organics and a sustainable lifestyle), I promise to do my best to give you valuable, interesting, and challenging information over the next year of my life.

Celebrate early and celebrate often!

TEDTalk: What’s Wrong with Our Food System

This TEDTalk is a great introduction for the next couple of posts that will have to do with GMOs (genetically modified organisms). If you’ve been living under a rock and don’t know what a TEDTalk is, head over to the TED page and spend a few hours exploring. You will find some of the most passionate, inspiring, educational, and interesting talks you’ve ever seen.

I want to highlight this particular video because it gives a brief overview of where our food is currently coming from and where it really needs to go.

The best part?

It’s given by an 11-year-old who’s tired of the deception.

Enjoy.
